
The early career of Ella Fitzgerald from the time she established herself as a celebrity of the swing era with the Chick Webb Orchestra and her early solo career which began in 1942 has been covered in Properbox 74 - Ella Fitzgerald, ??Romance and Rhythm?. This set picks up the story in 1954 with some of her work with pianist Ellis Larkins and smoothly works through recordings with amongst others Sy Oliver, Buddy Bregman, Count Basie and Louis Armstrong, in sessions that included Oscar Peterson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown and Buddy Rich.
