DOUBLE FEATURES
The
following are all independently packaged (i.e. - not by the studio)
high quality (we say B+) double features of classic Hollywood
movies: each disc contains two complete classics!
The
Strange Love of Martha Ivers (1946) / Lady of Burlesque (1943) -- both
starring Barbara Stanwyk
=> Strange Love was directed by Lewis
Milestone and co-stars Kirk Douglas and Van Heflin, is directed
by Lewis Milestone and is a true
one-of-a-kind film that has got to be seen to be believed. Lady
was directed by William Wellman and is based on Gypsy Rose Lee's "G
String Murders."
His
Girl Friday (1940)
/ Penny Serenade
(1941) -- both starring Cary Grant
=> Directed by Howard Hawks, written by Ben Hecht
and so-starring Rosiland Russell and Ralph
Bellamy, His Girl Friday
is a fast snappy terrific (but somewhat cynical) film with some truly
amazing
dialogue delivered with wonderful aplomb by
Grant. And Penny Serenade's no slouch either, with
co-star
Irene Dunne putting in a
fine turn in this touching romance.
Suddenly
(starring Frank Sinatra) / D.O.A. (starring Edmond O'Brien) --
=> These are two totally different and totally
unique noir thrillers. Made in 1954, Suddenly,
if you've never seen it before, will freak you out
with it's story of a lone crazed gunman (Sinatra, no less) holed up in
a room alongside the motorcade
route attempting to assassinate the President of the United States as
he drives by in his
convertible. D.O.A. (1950) is a murder mystery with a
twist; but we can't tell you what it
is...
