Angels Over Broadway (1940) Written & Directed by Ben Hecht; starring Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. & Rita Hayworth.  "A fascinating character study of the world of losers and two-bit hustlers living in the gritty underworld of New York City."

Arizona (1940) starring Jean Arthur and William Holden; dir. Wesley Ruggles.  Centers on Arthur as "a whip-carrying, rifle-toting hellion who single-handedly transforms a dirit-poor army outpost into Tuscon, Arizona."

Brother John (1970) Stars Sidney Poitier in this film about "the mysteries and prejudices of a small Alabama town on the brink of upheaval."

California Split (1974) Directed by Robert Altman and starring Elliot Gould and George Segal and set in Reno, Nevada,  this is one of the best -- and funniest -- films on gambling of all time.

Gas Food Lodging (1992) The debut feature by Alison Anders centers on a mother and her two teenage daughters "in this smart, sassy film about coming of age in a small New Mexico town."  This film presaged many indy films (think Sundance) that followed.

Once Upon a Time (1944) Cary Grant stars as a slick Broadway producer on the ropes who hopes to stage  a big comeback with a ... wait for it... caterpillar that dances to "Yes Sir, That's My Baby."  Think of a feature length, live action version of "One Froggy Evening" (the classic Chuck Jones cartoon that was obviouslly inspired -- at least in part -- by this film) and you get the idea; but remember -- it stars Cary Grant.

DOUBLE FEATURES

The following are all independently packaged (i.e. - not by the studio) high quality (we say B+) double features of classic Hollywood movies:  each disc contains two complete classics!

The Strange Love of Martha Ivers (1946) / Lady of Burlesque (1943) -- both starring Barbara Stanwyk
=> Strange Love was directed by Lewis Milestone and co-stars Kirk Douglas and Van Heflin, is directed         by Lewis Milestone and is a true one-of-a-kind film that has got to be seen to be believed.  Lady was directed by William Wellman and is based on Gypsy Rose Lee's "G String Murders."

His Girl Friday (1940) / Penny Serenade (1941) -- both starring Cary Grant
=> Directed by Howard Hawks, written by Ben Hecht and so-starring Rosiland Russell and Ralph                       Bellamy, His Girl Friday is a fast snappy terrific (but somewhat cynical) film with some truly amazing               dialogue delivered with wonderful aplomb by Grant.   And Penny Serenade's no slouch either, with               co-star Irene Dunne putting in a fine turn in this touching romance.

Suddenly (starring Frank Sinatra) / D.O.A. (starring Edmond O'Brien) --
=> These are two totally different and totally unique noir thrillers.  Made in 1954, Suddenly, if you've never     seen it before, will freak you out with it's story of a lone crazed gunman (Sinatra, no less) holed up in a         room alongside the motorcade route attempting to assassinate the President of the United States as he         drives by in his convertible.  D.O.A.
